About Workshop

Today's policing environment is constantly evolving. New legislation, Supreme Court decisions, emerging technologies, changing community expectations, and increasingly complex investigations require continuous professional development.

Menttora: Academy for Professional Development provides evidence-informed training designed specifically for law enforcement professionals. Our instructors combine academic expertise with practical experience in criminal justice, investigations, ethics, governance, leadership, and public policy to deliver engaging, practical, and legally current training.

Criminal Law and Legal Updates

Annual Supreme Court of Canada Case Law Update

Canadian criminal law evolves through landmark court decisions. This workshop provides law enforcement professionals with a comprehensive review of recent Supreme Court of Canada decisions affecting police powers, Charter rights, search and seizure, detention, arrest, evidence, disclosure, sentencing, and investigative practices. Participants will examine how new rulings impact day-to-day policing and learn practical strategies for maintaining legally sound investigations.


Charter of Rights and Freedoms: Practical Applications for Police

This workshop examines how the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms applies to police investigations. Participants will review search and seizure, detention, arrest powers, right to counsel, self-incrimination, privacy rights, and the legal consequences of Charter breaches.


 

 

Search Warrants and Judicial Authorizations

Participants will strengthen their understanding of search warrants, production orders, tracking warrants, Feeney warrants, general warrants, and other judicial authorizations. The workshop emphasizes drafting quality Information to Obtain (ITO) documents and avoiding common legal errors.

This practical workshop reviews lawful detention, investigative detention, arrest authorities, use of discretion, procedural fairness, and best practices for ensuring compliance with Canadian law.
